The Tesco Hudl 2 Is A Cool Family Tablet

Tuesday, December 01, 2015

Today I'm reviewing the Tesco Hudl 2 tablet, which comes with two speakers on the back (on either side of the Hudl 2), a huge screen display, a micro HDMI port, a micro SD card port, a USB port for charging and syncing, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack (at the top of the Hudl 2). The ON and Volume buttons are located on the right hand side.

They say, "first impressions are always the most important" and the Hudl 2 makes a great first impression! The huge 1920 x 1200 High Definition display of the Hudl 2 really stands out when taking it out of the box. The back of the Hudl 2 has a rubbery soft-touch plastic with a flexible feel to it, yet robust, which makes this device ideal for children.

The micro HDMI port feature is also a good one as it means you can hook up the Hudl to your HD TV. The Hudl 2 has a screen pixel density of 265ppi and In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology, which helps improve viewing the screen in bright sunlight.

The Hudl 2 come with Dolby-optimized stereo speakers which makes the sound quite literary surround you! As far as user-experience, swiping through homescreens, playing games and launching applications on the Hudl 2 is a breeze (no signs of lag and framerate drop). The "getting started interactive manual" to help first time tablet users is also very thoughtful.

The Hudl 2 also runs on an Android operating system (Android 5.1.1), which is great as you will be able to download apps from the Google Play Store. Saying this, the Hudl 2 already comes with a nice collection of apps including Play Movies & TV, Google Camera, Chrome and Google Maps.

The Hudl 2 also comes with a Child Safety feature that allows you to customize different profiles for each of your children based on their age. This is really a great feature and one that will certainly appeal families. Another feature I like is the web safety feature, which allows you to control the nature of content people can access, which means if your children were to stumble on something unsuitable only the they would not be able to access it. Even YouTube videos are unplayable once you have this feature turned on!

As far as the camera/video, there is a nice selection of modes to play around with like the 360-degree photo sphere mode, panoroma mode, bokeh-style lens blur and a video mode.Filming at 1080p HD is done via the main camera and 720P HD with the front-facing one. Testing the battery life, I was able to get around 7 hours of play while watching videos and playing games with 75% brightness and Wi-Fi turned off.

The Verdict
The Tesco Hudl 2 is easy to use and has a solid built to it. The massive screen really stands out and the speakers sounded better than I expected. The "Get Started" user guide and "Child Safety" features will make families and anyone who has not used a tablet before fall in love with the Hudl 2! After all, I haven't heard of many tablet manufactures offering this feature. Check out the Tesco Hudl 2
