Tronsmart Element T6 Plus 40W USB C Bluetooth 5.0 Speaker

Tuesday, August 13, 2019

It doesn't get niftier than a bluetooth speaker that delivers sound as well as power to charge your gadgets! The Tronsmart Element T6 Plus is a gem of bluetooth speaker that is all about big sound and bass shaking power in a small package. (UPDATE March 2020: T6 Plus Upgraded version now available)
The Element T6 Plus is compact but fairly sizeable, weighing 675 grams and measuring 20cm high and 8.2cm in diameter. The speaker is designed to stand up tall though, you can lay it down flat on its side, thanks to the long rubber trim along its side, which acts as a stopper.
True wireless stereo (TWS) is built-in to the Tronsmart Element T6 Plus speaker, meaning you can pair it with another Element T6 Plus to create a left speaker channel and a right speaker channel. Paring two Element T6 Plus speakers together also comes with the added benefit of being able to double the maximum audio output from 40W to 80W.
The Tronsmart Element T6 Plus is constructed entirely inside a sealed unit, using passive radiator technology, which is a simple yet, effective way to increase the bass while making a small speaker system sound a lot better without compromising power. The second benefit to sealed speaker units with passive radiators is that it increases the low frequency bass response. On the Element T6 Plus, the bass is powerful and boomy and can be felt!
There is no support for SBC, aptX or AAC but then again, the Element T6 Plus speaker is about jaw-dropping power, not high resolution sound. This speaker is mainly geared for outdoors and large indoor environments where loud volume and bass are the main requirements. The default A2DP bluetooth audio codec does a good job and the overall good sound quality won't disappoint you despite the little emphasis on the treble range (up to 16kHz).
It's worth knowing that while passive radiators look like speakers, they aren't. A passive radiator is, literary, a cone diaphragm without the magnet and electronic structure. When audio is played, internal air pressure builds inside the sealed unit, making the passive radiator aluminium plate vibrate.
The speaker/passive radiator setup inside the Element T6 Plus consists of two 20W speakers on the front and passive radiators on the ends of the speaker. This design is standard, aside from the volume control wheel, which is interestingly constructed on top of the passive radiator. Hard to say whether the volume control and passive radiator arrangement makes the performance less effective but having a volume wheel knob really makes the Tronsmart T6 Plus stand out from other similar speakers.
The volume knob functions just like turning the volume knob on a stereo system, which is way much more convenient than pressing a button. The volume knob has a brushed aluminium finish and has engraved the words Tronsmart , as well as a volume scale on the side to let you know the correct way to turn the knob to volume up (+) and volume down (-).
The ring surrounding the volume control knob also happens to feature a blue led light, which makes the Tronsmart T6 Plus speaker look even cooler in the dark.
Right alongside the rubber trim, you find more user control buttons, which are the type that you have to press a little hard. They include previous/next skipping buttons, a power button, a TWS button, an audio mode (M) button (to change from bluetooth to aux and microSD card), and a 3-setting EQ button, which lets you increase the treble, as well as enhance the bass in two stages.
Looking at the fabric material surrounding the Tronsmart Element T6 Plus sealed unit, it appears to be knit fabric rather than woven fabric because of the tiny rows of yarns looped over each other. With woven fabric, the yarns typically cross each other at right angles, which is a pattern you typically see in grain baskets.

Besides fabric, the Tronsmart Element T6 Plus speaker uses thick ABS rubber material for the bottom end of the speaker and the long side trim where the main user control buttons and connection ports are located.
The connection ports are sealed off with a rubber flap, making the Element T6 Plus speaker IPX6 water and dust resistant. The ports include a USB-C power input, a USB-A output, an auxiliary input, and a microSD card slot that supports memory cards up to 64GB in size.
The USB-A output is very handy, letting you use the Element T6 Plus speaker as a power bank to charge a smartphone or any other gadgets. The USB C port can handle a maximum of 3 amps, which is technically quick charge. Unfortunately, the maximum voltage the Element T6 Plus speaker can handle is 5 volts; hence you can not use a quick charge wall charger with variable voltage output. If you want to benefit from fast charge, you have to use a 15W (5V/3A) wall charger with constant voltage.
The Tronsmart Element T6 Plus speaker has built-in two lithium batteries with 3300mAh capacity each, giving the speaker a total battery capacity of 6600mAh, which can power the Element T6 Plus speaker for 4 hours at max volume and approximately 14 hours at 50% volume. When it's time to recharge, the T6 Plus speaker takes 3 hours to fully charge, using a 5V/3A wall charger. When a using a USB port of a computer, charging takes considerably longer (5 hours).
Being a wireless speaker, the Tronsmart Element T6 Plus connects to a tablet or smartphone via bluetooth using the latest bluetooth version. Bluetooth 5.0 is overall better than the previous Bluetooth 4.2 version, giving better battery life and bluetooth signal range when connected to a tablet or smartphone using bluetooth 5.0.
The bluetooth 5.0 inside the Tronsmart Element T6 Plus speaker has been tweaked to have a significant power boost to push the bluetooth signal further than the standard 10 meter range that you get with most bluetooth speakers. In direct line of sight, the Tronsmart Element T6 Plus speaker can transmit over a stable 20 meter range.
The Element T6 Plus also has speakerphone functionality so, you can take calls with it when connected to your smartphone. The quality of the mic is very good. Alongside the Element T6 Plus Bluetooth speaker, you also get a 3.5mm male to male audio cable, a USB-C charging cable, warranty card and a user guide. Buy it on Amazon
