Want to do heart rate training without the need for a separate chest strap? Check out the Multisport Cardio watch from TomTom!

The TomTom Multisport Cardio GPS watch is waterproof and can track swimming, running, treadmill and cycling workouts, as well as heart rate.
What's interesting about the TomTom Multisport Cardio watch and different from traditional heart rate monitors is that the heart rate sensor in the TomTom Multisport Cardio watch is detected directly from the unit itself via an optical sensor in the rear of the watch.
the watch module is easily detachable from the wrist band
The heart rate sensor sits up against your wrist monitoring changes in the blood flow in your wrist, making it very convenient to track your activities as you won't be needing a chest strap. All you do is strap the watch around your wrist and off you go.

The TomTom Multisport Cardio GPS watch features a four-way cursor joystick that allows you to navigate menus up, down, left and right as well as start an activity and change settings.
display size 22 mm x 25 mm
During an activity, the watch displays the average pace on the left and distance traveled on the right. You can access more metrics (i.e. clock time, duration, calories consumed, pace, speed, hear rate, etc) by pressing down in the menu.
You can also view past activities, including time, distance, pace, heart rate and calories you tracked previously. The Heart Rate Training Zones include five training zones to match your training goal and allows you to estimate exercise intensity.
Battery life is pretty good with around 8 hours of battery life when using the GPS and heart rate monitor feature. If only using the GPS features battery life improves to around 10 hours.
As far as the wristband itself, the Multisport Cardio band is wide, made of silicone and features a unique watch strap fastener design with a triple-buckle and groves to secure the band nicely on the wrist.
The TomTom Multisport Cardio watch uses both GPS (Global Positioning System developed by the USA) and GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System developed by Russia) signal, as well as QuickGPSfix signal, which is a feature only available to TomTom customers.

QuickGPSfix signal retains information about where the GPS satellites will be for the next 7 days. The fact that TomTom is fearuting both GPS and GLONASS is great because GPS has a network of 31 satellites while GLONASS has 24 satellites, giving you maximum coverage.
The built-in sensors and wireless include motion sensor, compass, optical heart rate monitor and Bluetooth Smart. The TomTom Multisport Cardio GPS Watch also has a beep and a vibrate feature to alert you.

The Multisport Cardio watch has a waterproofing rating of 5ATM, which means the Multisport cardio watch can take 5 atmospheres of overpressure (equivalent to a water depth of about 50 meters /165 feet).
Accessories that come with the Multisport Cardio watch include a handle bar strap to mount on your bike and a TomTom proprietary charging unit to recharge the TomTom Multisport Cardio watch. The TomTom charging unit also allows you to sync the data on the watch to the TomTom Sport mobile app.

Syncing the Multisport Cardio watch to the Software
Using the TomTom Multisport Cardio GPS watch is as simple as strapping the watch on your wrist but first, you want to download the TomTom Sports Connect desktop software (click here for MAC version) so that you can view later on your activities, stats and progress from your desktop computer.
The TomTom Sports Connect desktop software also allows you to download download QuickGPSfix information, the latest software updates, as well as set goals and enter your current weight.
There is also the TomTom Sports mobile app which is essentially a phone version of the TomTom Sports Connect desktop version that allows you to analyse your activities and see stats on the go.
You can download the TomTom Sports app from the Google Play or iTunes stores or you can download the TomTom Sports app from the TomTom website. Pairing the TomTom Multisport Cardio watch to the TomTom Sports app is easy (see video above).
Click "Get started" from the app and follow the prompts. Once paired, you will be able to view your latest activities by syncing the watch to the app (syncing is done by pressing any button on the watch to wake it up). When syncing your watch with your phone, you will also receive Quick GPS Fix, which reduces the time your watch takes to find a GPS signal when you start an activity.
