AUKEY EP-B40 Bluetooth 4.1 In-ear headphones with aptX technology

Saturday, January 27, 2018

While on the lookout for new headphones, you wouldn't want to miss out on a good pair of headphones just because of price!
The AUKEY B80 Bluetooth 5.0 and EP-B40 wireless earphones are an excellent candidate for one of the most value for money Bluetooth earphones you can get. The EP-B40 feature Qualcomm's latest CSR8645 Bluetooth 4.1 stereo audio chip which integrates aptX audio codec and many other great features like A2DP multipoint support and HFP multipoint support.
What's neat about A2DP multipoint and HFP multipoint support is that not only you can pair the AUKEY EP-B40 earphones to two phones at the same time but you can switch between two phones during a call. You can also disable hands-free mode during a phone call should you want to talk through your phone directly, which is pretty neat.
You can also mute/unmute by holding down volume(-), reject an incoming call by holding down the play/pause button during an incoming call, and redial the last called number by double pressing the play/pause button in standby mode.
The LED activity indicator in the AUKEY EP-B40 earphones comes handy for alerting you of what's going on visually. The LED flashes blue rapidly during an incoming call and slowly flashes red when battery is low.
When charging the earphones you will see the led show solid red and then show solid blue when full charge is complete (takes around 90 minutes).
The AUKEY EP-B40 earphones weigh only 13 grams and have a pretty long cable that is 50 cm long. Rather than one battery, the AUKEY EP-B40 earphones feature two 60mAh lithium-polymer batteries that give a long battery life between 6 hours on medium/high volume. The earphones will also switch themselves off automatically after 9 minutes of inactivity to save battery.
The inline remote control features 3 buttons, a micro USB port and a built-in dual mic with 6th generation Qualcomm CVC audio technology (CVC 6.0). What's rather unique about the microphone setup is that it has an extra microphone which works very much like active noise cancellation in headphones.
The CVC 6.0 dual mic setup works rather well at isolating your voice by reducing background noise, wind noise and echo so the person you are talking to can hear you clearly on their end.
The back of the earphones are magnetized so you can stick them together to wear the earphones around your neck like a necklace.
The sound quality is nicely enhanced thanks to the integration of Qualcomm aptX codec technology and can be tweaked manually thanks to EQ integration, which is another neat feature integrated in the AUKEY EP-B40 earphones that gives you a three setting equalizer to allow you to manually adjust the sound by emphasizing the voice frequency, high frequency (treble) or low frequency (bass).
The treble frequency goes up to 20kHz while the bass frequency goes down to 20Hz. EQ mode is activated by double pressing the play/pause button while audio is playing and then pressing again to toggle between the EQ settings.
The AUKEY EP-B40 feature Bluetooth 4.1 as well as Bluetooth profile A2DP, AVRCP, HSP and HFP which allows you to take a call hands-free and remotely control the audio playback, including skipping songs.
