Oclean X Pro Review Electric Toothbrush with Built-in Timer

Wednesday, October 06, 2021

Eating apples and brushing teeth regularly are two easy ways to maintain good health and keep the doctor and dentist away! Using an electric toothbrush is an effective and convinient way to brush the teeth because electronic tooth brushing does most of the work. On top of that, electric toothbrushes use quadrant timers that you help you pace brushing your whole mouth.

Like most electric toothbrushes, the Oclean X Pro (blue one) uses an spinning motor attqached to a cam and gear mechanism that makes the brushhead "shake" at 42,000 strokes per minute. The X Pro electric motor doesn't actually spin. It just moves back and forth, creating the vibration. Compared to the X Pro Elite version, which is very quiet (46dB), the Oclean X Pro makes a very loud vibrating high pitched noise (60dB). Check the video below for a volume sound test.

The Oclean X Pro recharges via standard micro USB connection. It comes with three accessories: a magnetic wall mount, a magnetic charging dock and a detachable micro USB charging cable that measures 66cm long and weighs 14 grams. The X Pro wall mount measures 6cm in diameter, 0.9cm thick and 16 grams weight. The X Pro charging dock weighs 43 grams, measures 5.2cm in diameter and 2cm high.

The X Pro charging dock has a magnetized area with four tiny prongs built-in designed to make contact against the charging contacts on the base of the X Pro toothbrush handle. The backside of the charging dock is layered with adhesive polyethylene foam (3M PE foam), which is waterproof, reusable and provides a strong bond on any surface.

The X Pro toothbrush weighs 100 grams (including the brushhead) and has a round squarish body, measuring 24cm long and 2.3cm in diameter. The detachable brush head measures 18cm long and weighs 7 grams. The X Pro toothbrush has a 6-axis gyroscope sensor built-in, which is designed to send brushing motion data to the Ocean app and generate reports on your brushing technique. The X Pro uses an Oclean-branded brush head made of nylon Dupont fillament bristles that are BPA-free, phthalate-free, and recyclable.

The X Pro is made of plastic and has a metal (non-magnetic) motor shaft. The X Pro serial number has been engraved on the motor shaft plate. On the front of the X Pro toothbrush handle, there is a responsive touch sensitive LCD screen, which you can swipe up, down, left and right to access different menus. Menu screens include About, Brushing Time (up to 9 minutes), Brushing Strength and Mode (clean, white, massage). The Home screen displays the time, weather and battery level only. To access information about intensity level, brushing duration and mode, you have to swipe left to the next screen.

The About screen shows information about the toothbrush, including serial number and current firmware update. You can also lock the X Pro touchscreen by long pressing the physical button located below the touch screen. The button is designed for turning on/off the toothbrush, pausing and resuming brushing.

The X Pro touchscreen also displays notification alerts (e.g. messages, low battery firmware updates). The X Pro saves brushing data on-board its memory bank; hence you don't have to keep the Oclean app running in the background all the time. That said, you do have to upload data to the Oclean app regularly because the X Pro can only store data for 7 days. The X Pro uses bluetooth 4.0 connectivity to communicate with the Oclean app, which is compatible with Android and iOS devices.

The X Pro toothbrush can be used without the app. The default program setting is the "standard daily cleaning" program, which runs for 2 minutes so, the toothbrush motor will stop automatically when 2 minutes are up. The standard daily cleaning program is designed to provide an equal amount of brushing.

The toothbrush varies the vibration pattern every 30 seconds to indicate it's time to brush a different area of the mouth. The X Pro charging dock is made of plastic and accepts 5V/1A (5W) input charge and outputs a maximum of 1.8W. The charging dock is dual purpose. It is designed to hold the X Pro horizontally and vertically. Vertical standing is the natural position for charging though. The X Pro charging dock integrates a micro USB port with a hinged rubber flap to prevent water/dust ingress.

There is no "intelligent charging" feature, which means after a full charge is complete, you have to remove the X Pro from the charger to prevent decreasing the lifespan of the battery. A low battery message alert appears on the touchscreen of the X Pro when battery is below 20%. It takes 2 hours to fully charge the X Pro and battery life depends on usage and intensity. There are 32 levels of intensity. Level 1 is the weakest and Level 32 is the strongest. If you brush for 2 minutes, twice a day at level 15 intensity, you can get 30 days of battery life (around 40 days at level 32).

The Oclean X Pro is comfortable to grab in the hand and has a smooth plastic finish that doesn't mark easily with fingerprints. The Oclean mobile app requires an account registration and access to phone location. The Oclean app gives you access to 12 different brushing programs, as well as a calendar for viewing previous brushing sessions and other information such as duration, intensity and effective brushing time (in seconds). From the Oclean app, you can also enable "overpressure protection", which is a neat feature that automatically reduces the vibrating power of the toothbrush when the intensity level is 24 or higher.

The Oclean X Pro has IPX7 water resistance so, you can technically use it while taking a shower. The X Pro comes with plastic protective cap and user guide. You can buy the Oclean X Pro from amazon. Check out also the review of the Oclean W10 water flosser
