Master & Dynamic MC300 Review Wireless Charging Pad Headphone Stand

Monday, August 22, 2022

A utilitarian charger stand solution with a hint of luxury fashion! The new MC300 by Master & Dynamic is made with coated canvas and supports one set of headphones, as well as fast wireless charging and AC charging built-in!

The MC300 charging pad area is made of coated canvas - the same material used by many handbag designer brands including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Fendi and Goyard.  The base and L rod are made of machined aluminum so, it is lightweight and durable.

The base integrates four grippy black rubber pads, as well as shiny reflective textured pattern that resemble tiny mini CD discs. The base of the MC300 charger stand measures 14cm (5.5 inches) in diameter, while the height of the L rod stand (when mounted on the base) is 27cm (10.6 inches) tall.

The holding/hanging area has a recess groove (5.5cm long) for the headphones to sit securely without slipping off. Depending on the size, you could probably hang two sets of headphones since the horizontal length of the L rod section is 7.5cm long.

The wireless charging functionality is located at the base of the MC300 stand, which integrates a single induction coil, as well as a USB-C charging port for wired output charging and a USB-C port for wired input power.

You can wire charge and wireless charge at the same time; hence you can charge two devices simultaneously, which is neat. The type of power adapter dictates how much power output you get. For instance, if you use a 30 watt power adapter, you can wire charge (up to 15 watt) and wireless charge (up to 10 watt). If you use a 15 watt (5V/3A) or 18 watt (9V/2A) power adapter, the wired charging decreases down to 10 watts and the wireless charging decreases down to 5 watts.

The MC300 charger stand comes disassembled in two separate pieces: the base and the L rod (8mm diameter). Assembly is easy though, taking just seconds, thanks to the spring loaded knurled barrel mechanism built-in to the top of the base.

The knurled barrel allows you to quickly and securely attach the L rod to the base in just two steps. To remove the L shape rod, you simply push the knurled barrel down and lift the L rod. The MC300 base weighs 320 grams, while the L rod weighs 126 grams bringing the total weight to 446 grams.

Potential deal breakers
  • The MC300 requires a fast charging power adapter or power bank and one is not included
  • Requires a minimum of 15W (5V/3A) power input
  • Available only in silver and black colorways. Would have been neat though, if a copper base option was available as copper is even better than aluminum at dissipating heat (twice as fast!).
  • The magnetic wireless charging pad only works with MagSafe devices.

Selling points for the MC300
  • Push lock mechanism makes the MC300 stand easy to detach for transportation
  • 3-in-1 solution: headphone stand, wireless charging and wired charging.

  • Th MC300 charges faster and, it is more versatile than the MC100 wireless charger
  • Premium packaging
  • Industrious  look with an L anchor style rod similar to the ones used in concrete and masonry applications

When buying the MC300 charger stand, you also get two accessories - a meter long male to male USB-C cable and a 20cm long male to male USB-C cable. Both cables have a premium construction made of soft thick rubber sheath, metal plugs and thick rubber strain reliefs reinforcing the cable joints. You can buy the MC300 charger from Master & Dynamic. The headset pictured on this review it's Master & Dynamic's MG20 gaming headphones
