Mujjo Tech Kit Vs Tech Case Review Snazzy Carry Bags

Thursday, December 29, 2022

Mujjo's new line up of Troubadour bags - Tech Kit and Tech Case - are snazzy and fashionable for all your everyday carry essentials!

One of the key selling features of Mujjo's Tech Kit & Tech Case bags is that the outerhell polyester fabric has been coated with a plant-based non-chemical durable water repellent (DWR), which is fluorocarbon-free (FCF-free); hence the bags do not contain any fluorocarbons (toxic chemicals). The only drawback with fluorocarbon-free DWR waterproofing is that it isn't permanent but, it is a lot healthier for the environment, making PFC DWR a worthy trade off.

Mujjo Tech Kit bag

The Mujjo Tech Kit bag weighs 187 grams and features a soft outer shell made of recycled polyester. The bag features a single riper slider that unzips all the way around "clamshell style" , opening like a suitcase on two halves, allowing you to easily pack your gear inside the Tech Kit bag, as well as quickly access it.

The Tech Kit zipper is not water resistant but has metal teeth and a metal slider with a thick rubbery pull tab design similar to the pull tabs on the Troubadour Apex Backpack. The zipper is a high quality OOK metal zipper made with a galvanic plating to prevent corrosion and rusting. Each halve of the Tech Kit bag measures 14cm x 16cm. The overall dimensions of the Tech Kit bag are 16cm high x 6cm thick.

The Mujjo Tech Kit bag integrates an external pocket sleeve with a magnetic fastening closing. The external pocket is about the size of an iPhone X smartphone (14cm x 7cm x 0.7cm). On the top corner of the external pocket, there is a rubber embossed Mujjo branding.

Internally, the Mujjo Tech Kit bag features multiple organizational compartments, including three large elastic straps (9cm long and 5cm long respectively), one elastic loop for a pen, a large open pocket sleeve, three large stretchy fabric pockets (9.5cm x 9.5cm) and a waterproof zippered pocket big enough for an iPhone X phone (or similar dimensions). In the center of the bag's folding hinge, there is a Mujjo tag made of vegan leather.

Potential deal breakers for Tech Kit
  • Outer shell waterproofing isn't permanent. Every time you wash the bag it compromises the waterproofing. After 20 or so washes in the washing machine, you will need to re-coat the Tech Kit bag with a waterproofing fabric spray. You can increase the DWR lifespan of the Tech Kit bag by minimizing washing times and/or washing the bag using a mild/delicate detergent (e.g. wool wash).
  • Zipper is not water resistant

Selling points for Tech Kit
  • PFC free waterproofing
  • Perfect size for everyday tech essentials
  • Made with recycled materials
  • Plenty of organizational space
  • 2 year warranty with Mujjo +  5 year guarantee with Troubadour
  • OOK zip slider
  • Durable metal zipper teeth

You can buy the Mujjo Tech Kit bag from Mujjo's website. The Tech Kit bag is modelled after the Troubadour Buddy Case - both are virtually the same aside from the branding and price (Mujjo's version has a lower price tag).

Mujjo Tech Case bag

The Mujjo Tech Case bag weighs 261 grams and it is made with a recycled polyester fabric shell. It features an external zippered pocket protected by a rubbery fly over lip. The external zipper integrates a YKK 5RCT zip slider with D ring and a long and thick rubbery pull tab (5cm long x 4cm thick) attached to it. The external zip compartment measures 17cm long x 12cm high.

On the front top right corner of the bag, there is a rubbery Mujjo branding glued on to the fabric. Just like the Tech Kit bag, the Tech Case bag zipper is not water resistant but, it's made with durable metal teeth and a large OOK galvanic plated zipper.

The Tech Case zipper has a U shape design, unzipping all the way down the sides of the bag, maximizing the opening potential of the bag up to 14cm outward. You can quickly access and stash your gear without issues. The Tech Case bag opening has been fabric hinged too, so it does not open suitcase style like the Tech Kit.

Internally, the Mujjo Tech Case bag features one large roomy side pocket, a center divider with four pockets (two pockets on each side) made of thick elastic fabric and three additional pockets on the opposite side - also made of thick elastic fabric. All three pockets measure 9cm high x 8cm wide each. The centre divider pockets have different heights: 9cm high x 10cm long and 12cm high x 10cm long respectively.

The Tech Case is internally lined with water resistant material (recycled polyester), making the Tech Case more water resistant than the Tech Kit. There are two Mujjo brand tags internally: one made of leather (the one on the middle pocket) and the second tag made of fabric. Dimensions of the Tech Case: 23cm long x 15cm high x 8cm thick. The outer shell of the Tech Case is a semi soft/hard shell - feels more rugged and protective than the Tech Kit outer shell.

Potential deal breakers for Tech Case

  • Minimal use of vegan leather, in favor of rubber accents for the pull tabs and Mujjo's external embossed rubber brand, which could have been embroidered for a more premium look.
  • Does not open suitcase style like the Tech Kit bag
