JBL Tour PRO 2 Review TWS ANC Earbuds Case With Built-in Touch Display App

Wednesday, April 26, 2023

Without innovation, useful tech becomes stagnant and boring. JBL's new Tour PRO 2 TWS makes TWS earbuds a bit more appealing and exciting!

Unlike most true wireless earbuds on the market, the JBL Tour PRO 2 TWS charging case features a touch screen app display. The case is relatively easy to carry. However, at 72 grams, the Tour PRO 2 TWS case is one of the heaviest - if not the heaviest JBL charging cased to date. About 20 grams heavier than the JBL Live Pro 2, JBL Live Pro Plus and JBL Quantum TWS. The dimensions of the Tour PRO 2 TWS case are compact though - 6cm long x 6xm wide x 3cm thick.

While the Tour PRO 2 TWS case is heavy, it is durably made with a rubber backing and a strong chrome plated metal hinge lid. The Tour PRO 2 TWS case has a bottom curvature so, it cannot be placed upright but flat on its side. The touch screen functionality is pretty neat, giving you access to advanced app settings without having to use the JBL Headphones mobile app. The touch screen case is operated via a single swipe right/left gesture control key app features such as video mode (low latency), battery status, clock, JBL's spatial sound, find my earbuds, EQ & ANC/ambient modes.

You can also control the touch screen case via the main JBL Headphones mobile app. The touch screen case is a full color LCD display with punchy and vivid colors. An e-ink type display would have been better though, to minimize battery drain. Another feature that would have made the Tour PRO 2 TWS even more appealing is media storage on-board the case to allow you to download music, podcasts and audio books direct to it so, you could leave your phone at home.

The Tour PRO 2 TWS charging case takes 2 hours to charge via cable and 4 hours via a 5W Qi charger (2.5 hrs when using a 10 watt fast wireless charger). The earbuds also take 2 hours to recharge with quick charge support, which charges the earbuds to about 4 hours battery life from 15 minutes recharging. At 60% volume and ANC ON, you can get 7 hours runtime with the earbuds (23 hours with the case). With ANC OFF, you can get 9 hours and 29 hours with the case.

The Tour PRO 2 TWS are equipped with JBL's AmbientAware and TalkThru - the same Transparency mode technology found on the JBL Tour One M2 headset - that allows you to amplify the external sounds. TalkThru isn't adjustable but can be set to automatic mode by enabling "SmartTalk", which automatically lowers the volume audio when then external mics hears you talking. After you're done talking, the volume audio increases back the original volume level.

Touch controls are operated via four gestures: single tap, double tap, triple tap and long press and, they include play/pause, track skipping, calls (answer/end/reject/mute volume), ANC, volume and voice assistant. You can disable touch control functionality via the app but, you cannot remap gesture controls so, you're stuck with the stock settings. The Tour PRO 2 TWS earbuds weigh 6 grams each and provide a comfortable/secure fit without sticking out of the ears excessively.

The Tour PRO 2 TWS earbuds can be removed from the docking fairly easy and, you can pair/connect them to your phone whilst inside the case. When you take them out and put them back in the case, the earbuds do turn off automatically without having to close the lid. There is 4 seconds reconnection delay when taking the earbuds out of the case.

The earbuds have a premium feel with unique styling, brand engraving and metal accents. The stem is wide and thick with a large driver chamber, which enables immersive bass sound. You can tweak the sound signature to your liking so, you aren't stuck with the stock sound signature.

As far as call quality, the mics pick your voice loud, clearly and naturally. You can use the Tour PRO 2 TWS earbuds at home for work calls and also at the gym or coffeeshop. There is noise reduction too, which is high enough to prevent loud/distracting noises from leaking into the call.
