Soundcore Motion X500 Review Handbag Style Speaker

Friday, January 26, 2024

Alright, gear up for a stylish rendezvous with the Soundcore Motion X500 review – blending clever features with a touch of chic handbag flair!

In terms of construction and design, the Motion X500 speaker is essentially a shrunken sibling of its larger kin, the Motion X600 speaker. Primarily crafted from plastic, it sports a triple driver setup with a metal perforated grill on top that conceals the tweeter and ambient LED light. The metal-reinforced grab handle comes with ergonomic grooves, and the speaker grille features perforations on both front and rear sides, although the full range drivers are front firing.

For added stability and to prevent unwanted vibrations, the base of the speaker boasts rubberized sloping button control panels and rubber isolating strips. The measurements are 19cm in width, 23cm in height, and 8cm in depth. The handle gap, at 5cm high, provides ample space for hooking or hanging the speaker, such as on a bike handlebar. The weight of the speaker is 1.6kg.

The physical buttons, integrated with LED lights, have a flat surface and require a firm press for activation, making them less responsive than some other models like the Motion Plus but lending a durable feel. The Soundcore app allows you to toggle off the buttons' lighting, including the Bluetooth status light, and the ambient LED light, although there's no option to individually turn off the ambient LED light.

The Motion X500 can go the distance, serving as the marathon runner among speakers with an impressive 12 hours of playtime. This endurance is calculated at 50% volume with LDAC turned off. Charging time is around 5 hours when using a 15W fast charger. Should you run out of juice or forget to charge it, fret not. You can use the speaker whilst charging.

The Motion X500 boasts the handy feature called True Wireless Stereo (TWS). With TWS, you can pair it with another Motion X500 speaker, which not only doubles the volume output but also enhances the sound stage, and would make the spatial sound function significantly more impressive than when using a single speaker alone. Only drawback with TWS it's that only works with same speaker model; hence the Motion X500 doesn't sync up with other Soundcore speakers.

If you're going solo with just one Motion X500, fear not – you still get a good sound. And yes, there's a microphone onboard for those important calls. Just a heads up, though: no USB playback happening here. This means, the X500 speaker doesn't have the capability to play audio directly from a USB flash drive or other USB-enabled devices to play music. If USB playback is a requirement, you can get this feature with the Motion Boom Plus.

The Motion X500 is a codec wizard, supporting LDAC, SBC and AAC Bluetooth codecs. LDAC, in particular, is like the VIP pass, giving you top-notch audio quality. Just a heads up, though – LDAC parties only on Android 8.0 or above, not on iPhones and, it also consumes a lot more battery. SBC codec gives you the longest playtime.

The mobile app support adds a cool touch through the Soundcore app. You need it to tweak EQ settings, ambient light, button brightness, sound presets, LDAC, voice prompts, and firmware updates – and hey, you can toggle some of these on and off. The app also moonlights as a remote control for adjusting volume, hitting play/pause, and adjustable auto power off. While you can customize EQ and button brightness, remember that you have to register your email with the Soundcore app if you want to save those personalized settings.

The Motion X500 plays nice with Bluetooth 5.3 and can hook up to a MacBook or Windows laptop, turning the X500 into a desktop speaker. If you plan an outdoor day with water activities, the Motion X500 is your water buddy with its IPX7 waterproof rating. The buttons are all sealed rubberized and the charging port has a thick rubber cover to prevent water and dust ingress, although, there is no dust resistance rating.

So there you have it, the Soundcore Motion X500 is perfect for those chill sessions or party vibe with a small circle of friends. It's waterproof and the stock sound signature is customizable so, you can always get the sound you want when you want it. Kick back, relax, and let the Motion X500 do its thing and turn your space into your own little concert hall. Cheers to the good vibes!
