Jabra Elite 8 Active Earbuds Review Dolby Audio ANC

Wednesday, February 07, 2024

Enjoy a sound that matches the intensity of your workout routine and push your boundaries! Meet your ideal workout partner – the Jabra Elite 8 Active sports earbuds.

Designed for active and busy lifestyles, the Elite 8 Active earbuds are robust, durable, and equipped with dustproof, waterproof, and sweatproof features. These earbuds not only stay securely in place during intense workouts but also provide an immersive music experience enhanced by Spatial Sound powered by Dolby.

The Elite 8 Active maintains the familiar design and size of previous Jabra Elite series earbuds, including the charging case that weighs 46 grams when empty. The case features a smooth ergonomic soft plastic finish, a pocket-friendly form factor, a sturdy hinge lid with no wobble, and a bottom-facing charging port.

Charging the case typically requires 2 hours with a cable. Additionally, you can opt for wireless charging using a Qi wireless charger, taking 3 hours with a 5W wireless charger or 2 hours with a faster 15W wireless charger.

The Elite 8 Active earbuds showcase a sleek finish reminiscent of the case, adorned with metal mesh accents and a rubberized upper section that envelops the top half of the earbud, contributing to its distinctive sweatproof, waterproof, and dustproof IP68 rating. The soft rubberized upper part aids in securely positioning the earbuds within the ears for enhanced comfort.

The middle rubber section serves a function similar to an ear wing hook, although it is not detachable. The provided eartips feature a soft silicone flange and a thick inner bore, elevating passive isolation and bass response. When it comes to sound, the default sound signature aligns with the Elite Dolby series earbuds - a deep, expansive soundstage with a V-shaped clear sound profile, customizable through the Jabra EQ app.

The Elite 8 Active earbuds, each weighing 5.5 grams, necessitate removal from the case for initial pairing and connection. Nevertheless, once connected, they effortlessly re-establish the connection, enabling seamless switching between the earbuds.

The front panel is effectively rubberized and integrates a tactile physical button, providing control over calls, ANC/HearThrough, track skipping, voice assistant, and audio playback through three distinct button gestures per earbud – single press, double press, and triple press.

These button gestures are customizable, offering the flexibility to rearrange them or disable specific functions. The same button gestures also apply to call functions, allowing users to answer/end/reject calls, manage multiple calls, mute/unmute the microphone, and toggle sidetone on/off.

The Elite 8 Active earbuds also feature quick charging, providing 1 hour of playtime with just a fast 5-minute recharge. A full charging cycle takes approximately 2 hours. In terms of battery performance, using the SBC codec yields around 6 hours with ANC ON at 50% volume and 8 hours with ANC OFF, totaling up to approximately 35 hours.

While the AAC codec is supported, there is no compatibility with LDAC. It's worth noting that ANC mode can be utilized with a single earbud, but this feature is not supported during phone calls. Comparatively, the Elite 8 Active outperforms the Jabra Elite 10 in battery performance but aligns closely with the Elite 7 Pro. While the Jabra Elite 5 offers a similar battery life, it lacks advanced features, making the Elite 8 Active a compelling choice in the market.

The Jabra Elite 8 Active earbuds utilize Adaptive Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation to automatically eliminate background noise, effectively addressing this even on windy days. Notably, wind interference is actively suppressed during calls, ensuring they remain loud, clear, and naturally sounding even in noisy environments. The Smartwatch Connectivity feature allows you to abandon your phone while maintaining stable connectivity, and voice assistants offer hands-free assistance on the move. Additionally, the earbuds include a variety of EarGels for a personalized and comfortable fit.
