Eufy RoboVac G10 Hybrid Robot Vacuum Without Roller Brush

Thursday, January 09, 2020

Those who work full time and have little spare time on their hands to clean their house should, definitely, consider getting a robot vacuum assistant such as the Eufy RoboVac G10 Hybrid because it will completely revolutionize the work of maintaining a clean home!
Depending on the type of flooring, you may need a robot vacuum with a roller brush like the the BoostIQ RoboVac 15C MAX or one without a roller brush like the pictured RoboVac G10 Hybrid, which is exclusively designed for hoovering non-carpeted surfaces, including vinyl, lino and hard wood flooring.
That said, RoboVac G10 Hybrid does come with the same off-road type tires you get with robot vacuums with roller brush, which provide good traction on all floor surfaces. The threaded tires give RoboVac G10 Hybrid the ability to climb low profile thresholds (up to 1.6cm high).
While RoboVac G10 Hybrid isn't designed for carpets, it is able to easily cross over from hard flooring to a non-pile carpet and pick up cat hairs and dirt, thanks to its powerful 2000Pa suction power.
On a high pile rugs/carpets though, which are longer than 26mm (i.e. long-tufted woolen rugs) RoboVac G10 Hybrid will struggle and tangle itself.
Regarding construction and design, the RoboVac G10 Hybrid has a classic mothership style, weighing 2kg and, measuring 7cm tall and 30cm in diameter. The bottom half section of RoboVac G10 Hybrid is made of hard plastic, while the top panel is made of glass with a mirror-like finish.
The sides contain ventilation outlets, while the frontside features a shock-absorbing, sensored bumper that allows RoboVac G10 Hybrid to detect and steer away from obstructions when it bumps into them. The dust collector can hold up to half a litre of dirt.

The RoboVac G10 Hybrid comes with a mopping function that consist of a waterproof pad, a washable cloth and a water tank that is physically attached to the bottom of the robot.
The water tank is easily attached and detached and can hold up to 600ml of water approximately and, it contains two filter elements that allows water to drip through.
The water tank isn't controlled by the app but by gravity so, water naturally drips through the holes. The waterproof pad is designed to collect excess water.
As far as cleaning performance, RoboVac G10 Hybrid performs fast and efficiently, thanks to gyro navigation that allows RoboVac G10 to map out the room, allowing it to clean the room in a methodical maze-like pattern.
If you can, you definitely want to choose gyro navigation over "bounce navigation" where the robot vacuums in a disorderly way, going over itself until you stop it or its battery runs out.
With gyro navigation, once RobotVac finishes cleaning the room, it automatically returns to charging base and turns off. Depending on how large the rooms are, RoboVac G10 may need a pit stop to recharge the battery.
RoboVac G10 will return to base to top up the battery up to 80% and then, it will automatically pick up where it left off.

The charging dock, itself, is powered via a DC barrel wall adapter with 19V/0.6A input and features long rubber feet on the bottom and a white led light on top to let you know when the charging dock is powered on.

The DC port input is located on the backside. When RoboVac G10 Hybrid is charging, the led button (auto cleaning control button) on top of the robot breathes orange and then, turns blue when full charge is complete in 5 hours time.
RoboVac G10 Hybrid integrates a long-lasting type dust filter inside the dust container, which you can remove and easily wash under a running tap of cold water without the need of detergent. A spare dust filter is also included.
Safety features included in RoboVac G10 Hybrid are three drop-sensors that allow the robot to detect a drop, which is very useful for houses with staircases.
These drop sensors are located beneath the robot where you also find a swivel wheel, two side brush mounts, a vacuum mouth and a master power switch. The vacuum mouth perimeter integrates a removable rubber trim that prevents the bottom side of the robot from scratching the flooring.

Being a vacuum, RoboVac G10 Hybrid uses motors to power the wheels and generate suction. The type of suction motor used is a brushless type, which uses magnets to generate suction power.
Brushless motors provide overall better performance and last longer than brushed motors because with brushless motors there is no friction generated between the parts. Brushless motors are also quieter during operation. In the case of RoboVac G10, the suction motor only generates 55dB of noise, which is as loud as an air conditioner unit.
Maintenance-wise, there is little you have to do to maintain RoboVac G10 Hybrid other than the occasional cleaning of the sensors and filter and untangling anything caught up on the wheels with the provided cutting tool.
The rear wheels have permanent side covers, which will reduce the likelihood of loose threads, getting caught in the wheels. The front wheel is a caster type wheel made of soft rubber.
RoboVac G10 Hybrid comes with pre-recorded voice prompts to let you know when RoboVac is charging, running low on battery, turned upside down, or when the side brush and wheels get stuck. There isn't a voice prompt or alert when the dust compartment is full but, the dust compartment can be taken in and out very easily.
The eufy Home app supports both Android (4.4 and higher) and iOS devices (8.0 or higher) and 2.4Ghz radio frequency only, which can be a problem if your Wifi router is dual band and it's set to broadcast via 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
Luckily, 2.4GHz is only required during the app setup with the robot so, you can revert back to having the router broadcast via 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Alternatively, you can change radio frequency from your smartphone itself, which is probably easier.
After downloading the eufy Home app, you have to create an account. RoboVac G10 Hybrid can complete a full cleaning session without the app but, you will most certainly want to use it because the app gives you access to the advance features.
Advance features include change, schedule and set a cleaning time, as well as let you enable spot cleaning and control the robot with your voice (supports only English, German, French and Spanish languages) via Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
Spot cleaning instructs RoboVac G10 Hybrid to clean a specific spot for two minutes. You can adjust the suction power from 1300Pa (standard mode) and max (2000Pa). Standard mode can deliver up to 1 hour 20 minutes of cleaning, while Max mode can deliver up to 40 minutes of cleaning. Given the running time rating, RoboVac G10 Hybrid will be better suited in a small to medium size rooms.
A few other neat things you can do with the eufy Home app include checking the battery, "Find My Robot", change RoboVac's voice, check maintenance, enable manual control and update the RoboVac G10 Hybrid firmware (both the microcontroller and Wifi modules).
Manual control lets you control the Robovac like a remote-controlled car, while maintenance provides a lifespan estimate of Robovac's key components.
A few other accessories you get include two spare side brushes, a brush/cutting tool, cable ties, four filter elements, user guide and 1 year limited warranty. Side brushes, water filter elements and dust filter have a rated lifespan of 6 months.
While not a complete replacement for a full size vacuum cleaner, the RoboVac G10 Hybrid is a silent sucker that will be a welcome addition to any home.
