Jlab Epic Wireless Mouse Review Ergonomic Silent Buttons and LCD Screen

Tuesday, March 21, 2023

The new Jlab Epic Wireless Mouse is a silent mouse of epic proportions! It features a total of 9 programmable buttons and a split left/right click button design, consisting of two left click buttons and two right click buttons.

The Jlab Epic Wireless Mouse also features a scroll wheel centre button and DPI button changer, which lets you cycle between four DPI levels (1200dpi, 1600dpi, 2000dpi & 2400dpi). On-board DPI changer is always an advantage, especially for gaming and Photoshop graphic designing. The only drawback with the Epic Wireless Mouse DPI is that it doesn't have dual DPI buttons, which is more convenient because you can cycle up or down.

As far as side buttons, most mice have 2 side buttons but the Jlab Epic Mouse has three left side buttons that you can operate with the thumb, as well as an oled screen display, which is an interesting feature. The screen displays various functions including DPI level, reconnection status, mode and button remapping. The screen isn't too bright or too dim, which is good.

The Jlab Epic Wireless Mouse has a middle hump with the left side of the mouse being higher up (5cm) than the right side (3.5cm). Unlike most standard mice, which keep your hand flat, the Jlab Epic Mouse keeps your hand angled slightly vertically, although not quite as high as a vertical mouse.

The Jlab Epic Mouse is a medium size mouse suitable for all hand sizes, although better suited for small/medium hands for palm grip without dragging the hand on the desk. That said, due to its heavy weight - weighs 137 grams - the Jlab Epic Mouse is well suited for larger hands and high DPI gaming. The Jlab Epic Mouse measures 12cm long x 5cm high x 8.5cm wide. The front of the mouse is slightly narrower (6.5cm).

As far as performance, 2.4Ghz wireless and bluetooth work equally well with no latency. There is a cable included cable, which is a quality premium braid cable but only works for charging since the Jlab Epic Wireless Mouse is a wireless only mouse. The included 2.4Ghz wireless dongle stores away neatly inside the bottom compartment, which is not magnetized but keeps he dongle secure without rattling inside. The "connect" button on the bottom of the mouse is not programmable, which means every time you want to switch to a bluetooth device you have to lift the mouse off of the desk, which is inconvenient.

The Jlab Epic Mouse is a good all-rounder PC mouse for productivity work and gaming, including MMO gaming, although MMO/MOBA mice tend to have a minimum of 12 button. As far as the Jlab Work app, it works well but has some drawbacks. For one, you are required to register an account using your email before you can download the software. The second thing is the app doesn't work when the mouse is in bluetooth mode. If you want to change settings, you have to be connected via 2.4Ghz wireless, which is odd.

The long battery life is one of the key selling points - the Jlab Epic Wireless Mouse is able to achieve such a long battery life by turning off automatically when not in use. There is no way to disable the automatic turn off. Charging time is approximately 3 hours to full charge.
