VANKYO Performance V700W Review 1080p Dolby Projector With Motorized Manual Focus

Tuesday, October 11, 2022

The brightest VANKYO projector to date - Performance V700W - a 1080p LCD (1 chip) projector with stereo Dolby audio and dual HDMI connectivity!

The VANKYO Performance V700W projector is equipped with two HDMI ports, two USB-A ports, one 3.5mm audio (out) port and keytone correction dial for vertical keystoning. On board the projector, there is also a 3 pin iec-c13 connector with PSU style power switch - same type found on computer's PSUs.

Another feature that stands out about the Performance V700W it's the focus. It is motorized like most auto focus projectors but, the Performance V700W has a manually controlled motorized focus lens, which is quite rare. Most projectors tend to have a non-motorized manual focus or autofocus which is automatically controlled by the projector using an ultrasonic rangefinder.

The Performance V700W projector has physical buttons on-board for controlling the focus.
Dimensions of the Performance V700W are 30cm long, 23cm deep and 10cm high. It features rubber feet, a height adjusting thumbscrew (rubberized) and four female M4 threads to mount it on a ceiling.

The air inlet and air oulet are located on the sides of the projector, as opposed to the bottom of the projector, which isn't the most ideal place. The speakers are side firing, which is perfect location for stereo sound.

From a 67 inch distance, the Performance V700W projector can produce a 61 inch picture size. You can scale image size and adjust picture quality (brightness, color temperature, contrast),  aspect ratio (16:9 or 4:3) and change the language of the user interface. The image quality performance is superb. The V700W is the brightest, most vivid VANKYO projector - bright enough in a bright room.

Potential deal breakers
  • Limited connectivity ports
  • No USB-C port
  • No microSD card slot, unlike the Leisure 470 Pro projector which has one
  • No AV input
  • No VGA port
  • Big and bulky design (weighs 2.3 kg)
  • The power connection looks like a computer power supply unit (PSU) - same PSU style power switch and 3 pin power supply connection.
  • No on-board buttons for controlling the projector
  • No horizontal keystone correction
  • Does not support wired screen mirroring for Android devices
  • Does not run Android software; hence you cannot download ppss from Google Play Store
  • User interface looks outdated
  • You cannot mirror or cast copyrighted content (e.g. Netflix, Hulu, etc) - same issue with all projectors unless they support online app streaming natively
  • No internal rechargeable battery - mains powered only
  • No sound settings
  • Vertical keystone has short travel - only 15 degrees
  • No carry zippered case for transportation - older Vankyo projectors come with a carry case
  • Does not accept 4k input source
  • No HDMI 2.0; hence no 4k 60fps playback support

Selling points for V700W
  • Very bright - 420 ANSI lumens
  • True 1080p resolution natively
  • Stereo speakers with total 10W RMS
  • 30,000 hour lifespan bulb
  • Dolby audio codec built-in, which makes sound better by automatically increasing the stereo sound stage, upping the  volume and adjusting vocals so, you can hear speech in movies better
  • Two HDMI ports (most projectors have one HDMI)
  • Two USB-A ports for FAT32/NTFS flash drives up to 256GB capacity, as well as external charging (5V/05A max)
  • 3.5mm audio jack for wiring external speakers or headphones (for private listening)
  • Master power switch - uses a PSU style power switch which physically cuts off AC power to the V700W projector. The power off button on most projectors (like most new electronics)do not cut off power entirely so, the device continues to draw AC power even when "turned off". Because the V700W projector can be cut off from AC power, it is no vulnerable to surges and other disturbances that may come in on the AC power line.
  • Semi automatic motorized focus adjustment - manually controlled
  • Side mounted air inlet and air outlet vents -
  • Ceiling mountable
  • Scale image and zoom function
  • Sleep time mode (10 min, 20 min, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min, 180 min, 240 min, custom time and OFF)
  • The lens does not stick out of the housing when adjusting focus which keeps the lens protected and, it allows you to fit the cover lens (something you cannot do with most Vankyo projectors).
  • Silent focus motor
  • Can connect to an external bluetooth speaker and supports bluetooth speaker mode (Vankyo calls this featuret "amplifier mode"), which turns the projector into a bluetooth speaker. This feature is useful because it automatically turns off the projector's led lamp to preserve power and the lifespan of the led lamp.
  • Supports chromecast, Apple TV, and amazon Fire TV stick
  • Basic, easy to navigate user interface (UI)
  • Environment friendly packaging materials ("green mind")
  • Supports wireless screen mirroring for iOS, Windows 10 and Android devices
  • Supports wired screen mirroring for iOS devices only
  • Supports screen casting - not the same as screen mirroring. Screen Casting lets you cast content from a phone to the V700W projector and still use the phone without interrupting the content (you cannot do this via screen mirroring)
  • Can project between 1.2 meters (18 inches) and 6.5 meters (224 inches)
  • Detailed user friendly guide
  • Comes with a fabric screen projector

Accessories included with Performance V700W are 1.6 meters HDMI cable, cotton buds, cleaning cloth, IR remote (batteries not included), 1.7 meters PSU 3 pin power cable and user guide. The fabric polyester screen projector comes with adhesive hooks and has eyelets built-in too to hang it like a curtain.

The screen projector measures 120 inches and weighs 567 grams. If you need VGA and AV ports, you can get these legacy ports with the Leisure 470 Pro, Leisure 410 projector, Cinemango 100 projector, Leisure 495W projector. You can buy the Performance V700W from iVankyo and amazon.
